Enjoy sacred music from the southern part of India, which is mostly sung in temples during festivals and events. Learn a musical piece on Elephant Lord, Ganesha, based on western music scales.

Enjoy a journey into South Indian music with Sriranjini Simha.

 

Listen to the song that is sung in temples, understand why it is sacred music. 

 

Take part in the singing demonstration along with Sriranjini, with an introduction to how music was started in temples, which are considered sacred.

 

Sing along to the composition of the Elephant Lord, which is in the ancient language of Sanskrit.

 

Participants will be given a chance to join a singing session and learning session.

Sriranjini Simha was born and raised in Mysore, which is in the southern part of India. She is a trained South India carnatic vocalist, she moved to the UK in April 2021. Her first music training was with her father Late S S Lakshminarasimha at a tender age, then under guidance of Vidhushi M L Bharathi from Mysore.

She gave up her full-time software job in an IT company to pursue her passion in the arts and completed her Masters in Carnatic classical music vocal under the guidance of Vidushi.Smt Surabhi Pusthakam from Dr Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts, and was awarded a Gold medal.

Sriranjini is a passionate learner and budding performer in the field of South Indian Classical Music. She has collaborated with few artists in India and is looking forward to more musical collaborations in the UK. She is currently learning under renowned musician Subratha Baluraguram for her further training in vocals and the Veena instrument, also under the mentoring program of Manasamitra’s Artistic Director Supriya Nagarajan. Recently she performed for Sacred Music in Bradford Cathedral as part of Bradford Literature Festival. Her new music will be shortly released from the Manasamitra mentoring program.
