The ghazal is a form of amatory poem or ode, originating in Arabic poetry. A ghazal may be understood as a poetic expression of both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of love in spite of that pain.
The ghazal form is ancient, tracing its origins to 7th-century Arabic poetry. The ghazal spread into South Asia in the 12th century due to the influence of Sufi mystics and the courts of the new Islamic Sultanate, and is now most prominently a form of poetry of many languages of the Indian subcontinent and Turkey.

A ghazal commonly consists of five to fifteen couplets, which are independent, but are linked – abstractly, in their theme; and more strictly in their poetic form. The structural requirements of the ghazal are similar in stringency to those of the Petrarchan sonnet. In style and content, due to its highly allusive nature, the ghazal has proved capable of an extraordinary variety of expression around its central themes of love and separation.

Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī , also known as Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Balkhī), Mevlânâ/Mawlānā and Mevlevî/Mawlawī (Persian: مولوی, lit. 'my master'), but more popularly known simply as Rumi (30 September 1207 – 17 December 1273), was a 13th-century Persian poet, Hanafi faqih, Islamic scholar, Maturidi theologian and Sufi mystic originally from Greater Khorasan in Greater Iran. Rumi's influence transcends national borders and ethnic divisions: Iranians, Tajiks, Turks, Greeks, Pashtuns, other Central Asian Muslims, as well as Muslims of the Indian subcontinent have greatly appreciated his spiritual legacy for the past seven centuries. His poems have been widely translated into many of the world's languages and transposed into various formats. Rumi has been described as the "most popular poet"] and the "best selling poet" in the United States. Our CEO, Qaisar Mahmood has often visited the tomb of Rumi in Turkey and reflects upon those experiences from talking with people at the shrine and his own thoughts and feelings. Rumi's works are written mostly in Persian, but occasionally he also used Turkish, Arabic and Greek in his verse. His Masnavi (Mathnawi), composed in Konya, is considered one of the greatest poems of the Persian language. His works are widely read today in their original language across Greater Iran and the Persian-speaking world. Translations of his works are very popular, most notably in Turkey, Azerbaijan, the United States and South Asia. His poetry has influenced not only Persian literature, but also the literary traditions of the Ottoman Turkish, Chagatai, Urdu, Bengali and Pashto languages.

The literal meaning of Rabi al-Awwal is ‘the first spring’, but this has no relevant meaning today, because the Islamic calendar follows the moon rather than the solar seasons. When someone says they’re in love, everyone assumes that they must be utterly happy and fortunate. It’s a general assumption, even I would assume the same. But what they don’t see is the struggle, the extra efforts, the selflessness, the hurt, the pain, and the loneliness. Loneliness isn’t just a feeling, it's an emotion, an immensely deep one. It shatters the person from within. There’s nothing worse for a person to feel alone and unworthy. After all, human beings survive and thrive on different relationships in their lives. Love and loneliness are intertwined, one eventually leads to the other. It happens with everyone, at some stage of their relationship at least. Qaisar Mahmood, our CEO, presents his thoughts on the matter in a poetic way with Leena Shah.

Friendship is what keeps us alive. We cannot choose our family but friends are those people that we make a conscious choice about. Some friendships and often childhood ones can last a lifetime and others are for specific moments in our lives. Sometimes we lose touch with friends and then reconnect for a brief period and where there is true friendship it seems like we only met yesterday.
