Former SNP Chief Peter Murrell sentenced over embezzling party funds

    Peter Murrell the former Scottish National Party (SNP) Chief was sentenced to 5 years and 3 months after he pled guilty to embezzling over £400,000 from his party.

    The 61-year-old, also known as the estranged husband of former SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon, plot began to unravel once Police Scotland had received reports of the SNP’s finances in March 2021.

    As reported by the BBC, Murrell is believed to have spent the money on a number of different items. His most expensive purchase is believed to be a luxury motorhome which cost £124,550.

    The SNP have stated that they would like to be reimbursed for the funds they lost. Murrell has stated that he has the intention to pay it back.
