Qaisar Mahmood CEO of Communities Together and Radio Sangam

Qaisar Mahmood has been recognised nationally and internationally as an innovative, dynamic & inspirational leader who has high expectations, strong values and a proven success record. He has a background in education at a national and international level. 

His leadership has been praised and recognised by many. He has been an advisor to schools. Local Authorities and the Department For Education. He has run a number of successful businesses. He was a member of the Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education, on the West Yorkshire Police Scrutiny Panel, a member of the Race Equality Council and MD of Communities Together, a company promoting community cohesion throughout the UK, through media interaction. He has appeared on a number of radio broadcasts and on television debating and discussing current educational changes. In 2003 he was featured by the BBC for chartering an airline and conducting a lesson for 90 students at 37’000 feet – the highest classroom in the world.

In 2008, he was fortunate enough to be one of twenty people selected out of 500 applicants to participate on the Future Leaders Programme, an accelerated programme towards headship in challenging inner city schools. This programme is supported by the DFE and mentioned in the government schools white paper ‘The Importance of Teaching'. This programme has provided for him opportunities of meeting and working with education ministers, highly successful head teachers and schools in the UK and abroad. This programme has further developed his understanding of rapid and successful school improvement.

In 2015 he was invited by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and congratulated by the Deputy Prime Minister at Lancaster House, London as one of 27 highly Talented School Leaders in the UK.

Qaisar Mahmood has been working in radio for over twenty years. His work has always been in the background supporting technical aspects of broadcasting and logistics. With a strong moral sense of community service, Qaisar has always worked in community organisations supporting good causes. He is dedicated to bringing the best in every aspect of his work and thus so made a commitment to ensuring that Radio Sangam, under the umbrella of Communities Together is a success. he has taken a sabbatical from his work to launch Radio Sangam. He is proud of the achievements of the team and proud that in a very short period, Radio Sangam is the most liked and followed Asian community radio station in the UK. It is his vision and determination that drives Team Sangam. Always a supporter of new and innovative technologies, Qaisar developed the first ever app for an Asian Radio Station in the UK in 2008 and was at the forefront with Radio Sangam also being the first to go Facebook and YouTube Live, changing and crossing the boundaries between Radio and Television. He developed Sangam Records which has a number of renowned artists on the label, Sangam TV, Sangam Urdu News, a news portal in Urdu and Sangam Silver Screen, working with UK multiplexes to screen classic Bollywood and Hollywood movies. In its first year of operation, Radio Sangam held, participated in or organised twenty four different events and concerts. Not being satisfied with all these achievements, Qaisar created another UK broadcasting first by being the only UK based Asian radio station in the history of British broadcasting to broadcast live sporting events including Premier League football matches, Rugby League games and cricket games live from the venues in Urdu and Punjabi, bringing more access to these sports for millions.

His mission at Radio Sangam is Education and Community Service. He is often invited onto television and national and international TV shows to provide comment and opinion. He has worked closely with government ministers and has also been featured on BBC TV, presented on ITV and international TV channels.

At times, he presents topical shows or late night slow music shows. He has always been passionate about music, an avid traveller, he always makes sure that his first purchase in another country is music. His music taste is extremely varied and ranges from Sufi to soul and everything in between.
