Major Milestone Reached for Kirklees Councils Affordable Housing Scheme

Planning permission has been granted for Main Avenue, Cowlersley, allowing work to progress on the delivery of 57 much-needed affordable homes.

Main Avenue forms a part of Kirklees Council's ambitious affordable housing programme, to bring forward new affordable homes across the district. This development will be delivered on council-owned land, in partnership with Thirteen Group, demonstrating Kirklees's continued investment in providing affordable homes and creating sustainable communities.  

The approval marks a significant milestone for the scheme, which alongside new homes for local people, the development will include public green space, landscaping and supporting infrastructure designed to create a sustainable new community. 

Councillor Phillip James, Cabinet member for Housing and Physical Communities said: 

 
"The need for affordable housing across Kirklees has never been greater, with many individuals and families finding it increasingly difficult to access a home that meets their needs and remains within their budget. 

That's why developments like Main Avenue are so important. Securing planning permission is a significant milestone and brings us a step closer to delivering high-quality, genuinely affordable homes that will help meet local demand and create a thriving community for years to come."
