Ryanair makes changes to seat policies for families

Ryanair have made changes to their seat allocation policies to create option for families to match the industry.

Ryanair are often critiqued for their policies regarding bag sizes, legroom, and their seat allocation pricing. If passengers would like to sit with their family and friends, they would be expected to pay a fee.

Families were given alternative options where they would pay a reservation fee for one adult ticket but have 4 free child tickets associated with it. They have now changed their policy so now parents can sit next to their kids for free. In order to do this they would have to check in where they would then be informed of that option where they can be seated together but towards the back of their aircraft where seats are likely to not be reserved.

Ryanair CEO, Michael O’Leary, said: “We will reluctantly adjust to this industry standard as we don’t want to waste time explaining to misguided regulators how badly they misunderstand what is in the best interest of UK and Europe’s consumers. Under our revised family seating policy, families may have to wait until after they have checked in to find out their seat allocation and are more likely to be seated at the rear of the cabin but at least the CMA will be able to claim they have done something for consumers, but sadly most consumers won’t notice.”

    This policy matches most airlines.
